Abstract Dempsey, Nordqvist and Kelly’s recent publication in BioSocieties highlights the complexity of disclosure donor conception, which is legally, ethically, morally challenging. However, contemporary society means that donor-conceived people’s awareness their conception history can no longer be controlled by parents. Late, accidental, non-parent becoming more prevalent distressing. Research has consistently found openness families from an early age optimal, positively impacts rather than threatens family relationships. Despite this, difficult for parents, particularly if they perceive unsupportive social context. Both adoption literature positive outcomes among disclosing compared to non-disclosing interestingly, parents who have chosen disclose not reported regret.
